Warehouse Deconstruction

  • demo case study 1
  • demo case study 2

This Warehouse Deconstruction case study features a 57,000-square-foot wooden structure built in the mid-1940s (after World War II) was later deconstructed during the summer of 2014.

This structure presented some unique challenges. First, two of the trusses were failing. This caused additional safety concerns. Second, one-third of the building was built on pilings over the Willamette River. This meant we were limited to using equipment weighing less than 30,000 pounds.

With safety as our first priority, our team developed a plan to systematically dismantle the large structure. Roof panels were cut free and carefully lowered to the ground. Entire trusses were cut and lowered in one piece. Every beam, truss and piece of roof decking was salvaged to be recut or reused. Overall, 80% of the structure was salvaged for reuse and the final 20% was recycled.

Testimonials

“I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Jim Paulson Excavating. My residential project involved excavation and placement of large stone columns on a challenging hillside site—one that had deterred other contractors. Drawing on decades of experience, Paulson devised and executed to perfection a plan to get the job done—all within time and cost agreed. That the Paulson team was so friendly and easy to work with was a big bonus. I couldn’t be more satisfied!”

Tom Nicolai, Homeowner

“Jim and Company, Thanks for the great work. It was impressive to see how you use that heavy equipment like a painter uses a paint brush. Very impressive work! Thanks again for a great job.”

Brent, Homeowner

“Jim and James Paulson and their crew are the best! Our home is on a hillside and they had to excavate many different levels for our new front steps, back patio, sidewalk, planters and driveway. They did excellent work and paid close attention to the details of our drawings and excavated exactly to the specific grades as needed. In addition they coordinated well with our architect and concrete contractor in the process. They were prompt with communication both by phone and email. They were professional and very friendly to work with, even when we made changes and additions to the plans. I highly recommend them and I would use their services again without hesitation.”
